Queensborough Community College Retired Mathematics & Computer Science Faculty Oral History Project

This collection began as a 2023 sabbatical project by Dr. Patrick J. Wallach of Queensborough Community College; it uses oral histories of retired faculty to preserve and describe the history of a college mathematics department and the students served by it. These interviews tell not only the individual stories of the faculty, what they taught and how they served the department but also paint a vivid portrait of the department itself, its role in the college and the changing demographics of the students being served. Queensborough Community College, part of the City University of New York, opened in 1960 and the Department of Mathematics, which started with only three full-time faculty members, grew to as many as 55 and now has 48 full-time faculty. As additional faculty retire, their interviews will be added to this collection. Playlist photo: Full-time faculty of the Queensborough Community College Mathematics Department, 1962.
