Well, that little boy grew up to be the third base, the 1969 miracle Mets world championship team Ed Charles and Ed Charles after his playing career was an ambassador for the Mets. We're going to be doing it again on April 14th with a, uh, book giveaway, um, to honor his memory. Uh, April 14th is the day before Jackie Robinson day. Um, couple of events at the library, um, I thought were important, uh, frankly, bringing Mr. Met to a library during the Jackie Robinson celebrations! That was a heck of a lot of fun watching. Uh, Mr. Met, trying to use a computer, uh, at your desk. Uh, and the other more important thing I think was, um, when we held the first Pride event at the, um, that I know of in Rosedale, uh, we invited the partner of Bayard Rustin, the great labor leader and civil rights leader. Uh, um, he's no longer with us, but his partner is still around. And, uh, uh, his partner brought, uh, the presidential medal that had been issued posthumously to, uh, Bayard. Um, although the programming has been book giveaways outside of the library, um, it's still some sense of continuity. Also. We were able to, last October, not only have a book giveaway for, uh, for Halloween book giveaway in way, but we were also able to bring in a COVID van and I got my booster shot that day. And, uh, other people in Rosedale were able to get their booster shots. Um, and then when he moved up to become Borough President, Selvena Brooks Powers was elected as our new council member and she has not missed a beat of, uh, supporting us, um, and supporting everything. So of course it's going to, uh, change things, but I was just thinking the challenges of Covid we've we go through challenges every once in a while, they may not be health related, but we do go through challenges. And I think back to my late mother, Sheila, and back during the seventies, we didn't have a COVID crisis. We had a fiscal emergency in the city of New York, and Rosedale was going to be one of the branches that was going to cease to exist. And my mom helped lead the sit-ins in the library, telling the city, uh, leadership. No, you will not take the library away from Rosedale we need that. We need that. We need that structure, we to maintain the community. Um, and I've known, uh, State Senator Sanders since he was the council member, uh, representing Rosedale. And I still have the, uh, citation he gave me for my service to the Rosedale Little League, uh, the decades of service I gave there. That that was an important event to signal that the world was healing. The world was healing.
