And mine resonated with nearly 4,000 people who saw fit to go out and vote for me, not just once but twice, because I also ran for state committee. Don't have to experience what young men of color experience, all across the city, state nation, and quite frankly, in the world. And since the Black Lives Matter movement was a huge influence in making sure that we got that message of unity out, but also the message of accountability and making sure that people who are public servants actually serve the people that put them there. And, as I mentioned, that linkage between long-term longstanding renters being able to transition into homeowners, we've gotta repair that link because folks want their own, but the tools have not been there for them to make that transition. And so I see it as my duty to try my best, to fight, to make sure that people are moving, not—it's a mindset. And, even when it closes the folks who run it live here, live in the communities that I represent, and live in the communities of Queens, and, you know, they, they're always willing to put their best foot forward, to help any young person, any middle-aged person, any senior who wants help. So for me, the libraries are amazing because they are the centers of our community, where there is none, where there are none. I am grateful because I'm able to see both sides of the library now having been a patron of the library, my entire life, to now, being an elected or I'm helping support the library by running summer reading programs through my office to support reading initiatives, but also being able to fund the library. We gave some discretionary funding to all the libraries in my district. I want to say—want to leave folks with the inspirational word, you know, in June of 2020, this community decided that they wanted it to go in a different direction. They decided that a 24 year old—I think it was 23 at the time, just turning 24—you know, a young man that has committed every extra minute I had to movin' this community forward, is someone that can best represent them on a state level, being the youngest African-American, being a homegrown from the community. These are the things that the work that got me to be in service is what I hope inspires folks not just to run for office but, support and love your community, because if you don't, no one else will. And, when I talk about my pathway here, it was not easy. You know, struggling, living in a single parent household, very few male mentors, struggling with emotional and hyperactivity disabilities, throughout my time in the public school system, having to go to counseling, like all of these different things, all of my struggles, all my scars. Finding my voice at around 10 and 12, where I was able to turn my anger, frustration into change, into voicing my anger and frustration at the systems that have kept us oppressed and have allowed these systems to perpetuate in our communities. Like if I don't say anything through this interview, or throughout my tenure, I just want folks to understand that there are ways that you as an individual can change. And so I'm hoping that my struggles and my experience being a SEEK student going through what I shared with you all today, or with you Ms. Cox today, is an inspiration for the next 20 something year old to run for office and get elected.
