What is now Nassau County was originally part of Queens County. When consolidation happened in 1898, the western part of Queens County voted to become part of greater New York City, the eastern part said no. So that split off and became Nassau County. I would say sometime around 2010 or so, somebody in the marketing department got the idea to change the name to the Archives at Queens Library - probably just because people would call up and we'd answer the phone and say, \"Queens Library, Long Island Division\", and they'd be like, \"oh, I don't want Long Island. I want Queens\".
