The house was meant for Mohamed and his sisters. Richmond Hill is the setting for the Queens' Caribbean and Guyanese community.  Richmond Hill has really transformed since 2005.  Mohamed found himself reintegrated back into his Guyanese culture. However he encountered a lot of discrimination and homophobia in Richmond Hill. There were no gay bars in Richmond Hill. Mohamed met gay people at house parties where encountered other Caribbean gay men. His partner went to Mohamed's defense.  Mohamed and his partner were attacked by the tassa players with their drum sticks.  Mohamed's brother was attached with the trophy and no one helped did anything.  The bar manager hid the assailant and the police were dismissive.  Mohamed's parents learned the incident from a newspaper article while they were in Guyana.  This anti-gay incident in Richmond Hill, involving his partner and brother mobilized Mohamed and his family.  Mohamed's family organized a rally with the assistance of Richmond Hill based non-profits, including the Indo Caribbean Alliance.
