But, through the education and work he had done at school, he decided that he wanted to come back to Far Rockaway and change things for the better. He started by organizing “Community Clean-ups”, food drives and events mostly alone with the support of his mother and a few friends. Sometimes he was discouraged, as people in the community were not always supportive. He then started the Far Rock Greek Council, a fraternal organization that does good works for the community. The Far Rock Greek Council started with about 11 people and now has 60 members, and growing, all doing volunteer work in the community. It was originally a part of NPHC (National Pan-Hellenic Council) which is for Black fraternities and sororities, but it was changed to the Far Rock Greek Council, and now includes Latin fraternities & sororities and other social fellowships.

Curtis Turney-Rentas also talks about community service during the pandemic in Far Rockaway, one of the hardest hit areas during the COVID-19 shut down, and how his organization helped to give out PPE and distribute food to address the growing need for food in the neighborhood. He also discusses coordinating with other organizations (Queens Defenders) during the BLM protests that started after the George Floyd killing, to do things like voter registration, promote the filling out Census 2020, distribute food, and organize with poets and speakers for marches in Far Rockaway.
